Job Summary

The Process/Chemical Engineer at Redoxblox will drive the development and optimization of high-temperature thermochemical processes for energy storage applications. This role focuses on designing, implementing, and refining thermochemical chemical process within the storage system to maximize energy efficiency, storage capacity, and operational safety. The engineer will work with cross-functional teams, including R&D, mechanical engineering, and operations, to advance the thermochemical processes essential for our storage solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Process Design & Optimization: Design and optimize thermochemical reaction processes, enhancing efficiency, energy density, and scalability of storage systems.
  • Thermochemical Reaction Analysis: Develop and refine chemical reactions that can operate efficiently at high temperatures, ensuring high energy retention and repeatability of charging/discharging cycles.
  • Material & Reactant Selection: Evaluate and select materials and reactants based on performance, stability, and sustainability at high temperatures and under cycling conditions.
  • System Integration: Collaborate with mechanical engineers to integrate chemical processes with system hardware, ensuring compatibility and optimizing heat and mass transfer.
  • Testing & Validation: Conduct laboratory and pilot-scale experiments to validate reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and energy storage capacity. Analyze data to guide process improvements.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all processes meet safety standards for high-temperature and pressurized environments, including handling of reactive and corrosive chemicals.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Collect, interpret, and document data from process trials and testing. Prepare technical reports and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance system efficiency, reduce costs, and extend equipment lifespan.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in high-temperature chemical processes, energy storage, or thermal systems. Experience in thermochemical energy storage or similar applications is preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Knowledge of thermodynamics, reaction kinetics, and heat/mass transfer principles.
    • Familiarity with high-temperature, high-pressure systems, and material properties relevant to thermochemical cycles.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to design and interpret complex experiments.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present technical data clearly.
  • Attention to Detail: High degree of accuracy in experimental design, data collection, and documentation.

Working Conditions

  • Environment: This position involves a mix of lab and field-based work, with exposure to high-temperature and potentially reactive chemical environments.
  • Collaboration: Frequent interaction with R&D, mechanical engineering, and safety teams, as well as external research and technology partners.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in thermochemical energy storage, thermal power generation, or energy conversion technologies.
  • Knowledge of sustainable practices in chemical engineering, such as lifecycle analysis and chemical recycling.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and safety protocols for high-temperature chemical processes.
