JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking an Electrical Engineer with demonstrable skills in component selection with broad experience in high power electrical system design. This is a hands-on position that requires refined experimental skills and outstanding communication abilities. Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering. The successful applicant will have the choice of working in Bend, Oregon or San Diego, California.

Responsibilities

  • Develop electrical system architectures for a novel thermochemical energy storage device
  • Select appropriate control systems hardware and software platforms
  • Select system components including power electronics that drive motors, heaters, etc.
  • Develop and verify digital and analog power electronics control hardware
  • Record specification designs, drawings, bills of materials and test data
  • Create test procedures to verify hardware designs
  • Ensure products satisfy UL, CSA, IEC, IEEE, EU and EN requirements
  • Handle power electronics, components, circuits and modules
  • Discuss with research personnel to resolve problems and develop design
  • Prepare product or system layout and detail drawings and wiring schematics
  • Check engineering test results for application to system developments

Requirements

  • High proficiency in the fundamentals of electrical engineering
  • Experience with common power electronics designs and topologies, including AC-AC and AC-DC converter design
  • Experience in working with high voltage equipment (up to 15 kV) and high power (up to 1 MW) in a laboratory environment
  • Familiarity with common laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes, power supplies, power analyzers, safety equipment, etc.
  • Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering with 5 years of industry experience in electrical engineering and control systems
  • Demonstrated success in independent pursuit of technical projects
  • Superior English speaking and writing skills. Must be able to effectively communicate ideas, technical conditions, and specifications.
  • Able to lift and manipulate equipment and experimental apparatus weighing up to 30 pounds

    Preferred Qualifications
    Advanced degree in electrical engineering
    Professional Engineering (PE) licensure in the state(s) of California (and Oregon)
    10 years of industry experience in electrical engineering and control systems
    Hardware, programming and control system experience/expertise
