Internship: Electrical Engineering
Job Description
We are seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented Electrical Engineering Interns to join our team in the Energy Storage industry. As an Electrical Engineering Intern, you will support our team in the development and optimization of energy storage systems. You will work closely within our engineering team to design, analyze, and test system components. Additional responsibilities will be to assist in the development and integration of new technologies into the product lines. This is a great opportunity for rapid hands-on learning as well as the freedom to innovate and expand technical skillsets in a rapid fashion.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in conducting research, gathering data, and performing analysis to support embedded controls and power electronics engineering projects
- Collaborate with team members to develop embedded firmware, control algorithms, electrical schematics, and system-level solutions
- Troubleshoot embedded hardware, firmware, and power electronics issues, and implement corrective actions to ensure system reliability and performance
- Prepare technical documentation including schematics, firmware documentation, control logic descriptions, test reports, and presentations
- Prepare spec sheet for electrical components such as transformers, capacitors, inductors, contactors, AC/DC fuse, DC relays, …
- Participate in meetings and contribute ideas to improve embedded architecture, power system design, and controls strategies
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures while working with embedded electronics, power systems, and lab equipment
Requirements / Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in embedded systems and power electronics
- Experience with development on microcontrollers running Zephyr RTOS or similar firmware including bare-metal solutions
- Familiarity with power electronics, power distribution, DC/DC converters, inverters, and electrical protection concepts
- Experience with embedded system testing and validation (bench testing, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, packet captures, PCB design)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment
- Preferred proficiency in software/hardware environments using Python, C, Debuggers, JTAG for functional verification of PCB designs and testbeds
- Strong comfort working in an ambiguous, fast-paced engineering environment to support electrification and renewable energy transitions
- Familiarity with Hardware in the Loop (HIL) is a huge plus
Duration:
This is a full-time internship position for 90 days, starting approximately mid-June 2026 and ending approximately mid-September 2026. Opportunities for employment continuation can be discussed at the conclusion of the internship and is not guaranteed.
Location:
100% on-site in our San Diego office located in east Sorrento Valley (92121).
Pay:
Bachelor’s: $30/hr
Master’s: $32/hr
