Internship: Mechanical/Controls Engineering
Job Description
We are seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical/Controls Engineering Intern to join our team in the Energy Storage industry working specifically with our team on prototyping and test systems. As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will support controls development and implementation for experimental test stands and prototypes. The role sits at the interface of mechanical systems, controls, and data acquisition, with some overlap with software-driven experimentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with setup and debugging of controls for prototype systems and test stands
- Support sensor integration, data acquisition, and basic automation tasks
- Collaborate on experimental workflows involving heaters, power electronics, and instrumentation
- Occasionally assist with mechanical design and fabrication of dies used in electrode and monolith fabrication
- Contribute to documentation of control logic and test procedures
Requirements/Qualifications
- Pursuing a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Controls-focused Engineering, or related field
- Basic proficiency in Python or similar programming language
- Familiarity with CAD tools
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with controls systems, instrumentation, or experimental automation
- Exposure to Arduino, PLCs, or data acquisition hardware
- Comfort working in an interdisciplinary, lab-based environment
Duration:
This is a full-time internship position for 90 days, starting approximately mid-June 2026 and ending approximately mid-September 2026. Opportunities for employment continuation can be discussed at the conclusion of the internship and is not guaranteed.
Location:
100% on-site in our San Diego office located in east Sorrento Valley (92121).
Pay:
Bachelor’s: $30/hr
Master’s: $32/hr
